How does a Skin Peel work ?
Chemical facial peels aim to remove the dead skin cells from the skin’s surface to allow new healthy cells to grow back and help create smoother looking skin. They can also be used to treat blemishes, scars and help reduce the signs of ageing.
The acids within the peel used work by bringing the pH of the skin to an optimum acidity level. This action chemically loosens the “glue” that binds the dead and damaged cells causing exfoliation and allow the promotion of new cell growth.
What are the benefits of a Skin Peel ?
Chemical face peels can restore the skin to a more youthful state and balance out uneven tone and texture in a short space of time. It is a skin tightening and skin resurfacing treatment that can give amazing results.
They are speedy treatments with no downtime, which can be performed regularly to promote healthy skin.
They are also beneficial in that multiple skin conditions may be treated simultaneously.
Are there different types of Peels ?
Yes, there are three different types of peel: superficial, medium and deep peels. These are categorised by the strength of the acid solution used in the peel and how deeply they penetrate the skin.
I only carry out superficial peels, as these have minimum side effects and recovery time.
What does the treatment involve ?
During the peel your skin will be cleansed and toned and the chemical peel will be applied to your skin using a gentle brush. The peel will be left on the skin for between three and five minutes, during which time some clients may experience a mild tingling or a mild burning sensation. The procedure is not painful. After the peel, a cooling and soothing mask is applied to the skin. Your skin will be moisturised and an antioxidant and a sun screen will be applied to the skin.
Is it painful ?
Cosmetic skin peels are not painful. Some clients may experience a mild tingling or a mild burning sensation when the solution is applied to this skin, but this is carefully monitored and only applied for a few minutes before being removed.
How long does the treatment take ?
Please allow 30 minutes.
What results can I expect ?
A cosmetic skin peel will reveal fresher looking, brighter and rejuvenated skin. Skin will appear smoother, clearer, softer and more refined.
How Many Peels Do I Need ?
Whilst you may see some benefits after a single superficial peel. We recommend a course of six peels, one or two weeks apart. This will give the best results, as the full benefits of the peels build up over a course of six treatments. After a course of six peels you can have a once monthly maintenance peel or wait for three months before embarking on another course of peels.
